Matthew Hergert
Matt Hergert’s lending career began in 2002—not by design, but by necessity. In the aftermath of the dot-com crash, Matt was a telecom engineer in Silicon Valley and a single father of two young boys. When industry layoffs made refinancing impossible, a simple rejection from an online lender became a turning point. Instead of walking away, Matt asked one unexpected question: “Are you hiring?”
That question launched a career that has now spanned more than two decades.
Within weeks, Matt was processing loans. By 2005, he earned his California Real Estate License (which is what you needed back then) and transitioned into brokering independently. His engineering background, combined with hands-on loan processing experience, gave him something many lenders lack: a deep technical understanding of how deals are structured, documented, and closed—cleanly and on time.
Known for his clear communication and calm, solutions-focused approach, Matt specializes in helping clients navigate even the most complex lending scenarios. He works with first-time homebuyers, move-up buyers, and seasoned investors, offering expertise across a wide range of loan programs, including VA, Conventional, FHA, USDA, Jumbo, Bridge, Investment property, Non-QM, and Commercial financing.
Before entering finance, Matt studied at DeVry University in Phoenix and spent years in the motorcycle industry as a mechanic and metal fabricator—experiences that shaped his work ethic, precision, and problem-solving mindset. Outside of work, he still enjoys riding and exploring on his motorcycle with his wife, Sue. Matt is also a Finance Officer for the Son’s of American Legion and has passion for helping veterans. You could find Matt and Sue volunteering at their local American Legion events.
Matt’s two sons are now grown—one serving as a U.S. Marine while training to become a chiropractor, and the other building a successful career in the restaurant industry. As a father, Matt understands the responsibility behind every financial decision. That perspective drives his passion for helping clients achieve homeownership—especially when they’ve been told “no” elsewhere.
Many of Matt’s long-time clients now trust him with their children’s home financing, a distinction he considers the highest complement. His philosophy is simple: every client deserves honesty, clarity, and exceptional service—whether it’s their first home or their tenth.
“The greatest compliment I can receive is your referral.” — Matt
