Matthew Hergert
Matt began his lending career in 2002, following an unexpected career pivot after the .com crash of 2001. At the time, he was a telecom engineer in Silicon Valley and a single father to two young boys. Faced with uncertainty in the tech industry, Matt had to quickly find a new path to provide for his family.
After being turned down for a refinance loan by E-Loan due to unemployment, he asked the loan officer a simple question: “Are you hiring?” That bold move landed him a job processing loans just weeks later—and launched what would become a successful and rewarding career in home lending.
By 2005, Matt had earned his state license in California and transitioned into brokering home loans independently. His background in engineering and loan processing gives him a meticulous eye for detail, ensuring smooth and timely closings for his clients. Known for his clear communication and ability to break down complex loan programs, Matt works with a wide range of clients—from first-time homebuyers to seasoned investors.
He has extensive experience with various loan types, including:
- VA
- Conventional
- FHA
- USDA
- Jumbo
- Bridge
- Non-QM
- Commercial
Before entering the world of engineering and finance, Matt studied at DeVry University in Phoenix, graduating in 1991. He also worked in the motorcycle industry as a mechanic and metal fabricator—skills he still enjoys putting to use today. When he’s not working with clients, you’ll often find him riding and exploring on his motorcycle with his wife, Sue.
Matt’s two sons are now grown—one proudly serving as a U.S. Marine and training to become a chiropractor, and the other thriving in the restaurant business. Matt understands the value of hard work, resilience, and trust. For him, helping someone buy their first home—especially when they didn’t think it was possible—is one of the most rewarding parts of his job.
Many of his long-time clients now refer their children to him, a gesture that Matt considers the highest compliment. He believes that every client deserves honesty, clarity, and exceptional service—whether it’s their first home or their tenth.
“The greatest compliment I can receive is your referral.” – Matt
